Why a patchwork rug made of cowhide?
A patchwork rug combines the best of both worlds. You have the clean, straight lines of a regular rug, so it lies neatly and tidily under your coffee table or next to your bed. And you have the character of real cowhide: each square has its own shade and pattern, giving the rug a lively look without becoming overwhelming.
You can feel the quality right away. The hairs are firmly attached, the rugs are odor-free, and have a beautiful, silky-soft sheen. Cowhide is naturally strong and durable, so with normal use and a little maintenance, you’ll enjoy it for years to come.
And I love telling the story behind it: cowhide is a byproduct of the meat industry. By tanning the hide and turning it into something beautiful, it gets a second life instead of being thrown away.
Is a patchwork rug something for you?
Chances are you’ll recognize yourself in this:
- You love genuine, natural materials, but you’re looking for a rug with a sleek, rectangular shape.
- Your interior is modern, minimalist, Japandi, or industrial, and you want to add warmth and texture without making it look cluttered.
- You’re looking for a rug to place under the coffee table, next to the bed, or in the home office—in a size that fits well in many rooms.
- You want something special on the wall, as a warm alternative to a painting.

Which color patchwork rug will you choose?
All rugs are the same size, so it’s mainly about the color:
- White: off-white and cream white with a soft sandy accent. Light and fresh, it makes a smaller space appear larger.
- Champagne beige: shades of sand, beige, and champagne. Warm and understated, beautiful with oak, linen, and bouclé.
- Gray: light gray and silver-gray with off-white. Cool and timeless, beautiful on a concrete floor.
- Gray-brown: a vibrant mix of gray, taupe, brown, and cream. Natural and resistant to looking dirty.
- Brown: cognac, reddish brown, dark brown, and black. Rich and atmospheric when paired with leather and wood.
Are you unsure whether to choose light or dark? A light shade makes a room feel airier, while a dark shade adds warmth and coziness and is a bit more forgiving in a busy space.
How to Use a Patchwork Rug in Your Home
- Under the coffee table: measuring 180 x 120 cm, the rug fits nicely under an average coffee table, with space around it.
- Next to the bed: wonderful to put your feet up on in the morning.
- In the office or hallway: the straight shape fits well in narrower spaces.
- On the wall: as wall decor, a patchwork rug is a real eye-catcher, whether above the sofa or in the stairwell.

My advice
Measure your space before ordering. For example, lay a sheet measuring approximately 180 x 120 cm on the floor, and you’ll immediately see how the rug will look. Under a coffee table, it looks nice if the rug extends slightly beyond the edges on all sides.

What a patchwork rug is less suitable for
Let’s be honest: a patchwork rug is made of leather, and leather and water don’t mix. Therefore, use the rug indoors, in a dry place, and not in the bathroom or outside on the patio. Also, avoid placing it in a spot where it’s exposed to bright sunlight all day: just like any natural product, the color may fade slightly over time.
Order with confidence
The patchwork rugs are assembled by color. So you’ll receive a rug that closely resembles the photo, but since each square comes from a real hide, the distribution of light and dark squares may vary slightly. You have a 30-day return window, and it’s no surprise that customers rate us a 9.8. For orders over €100, I offer free shipping within the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. In the Netherlands, you’ll usually receive your rug within 1–2 business days.
Want to give your interior the perfect finishing touch? Pair your rug with matching cowhide cushions, or add a wonderfully soft sheepskin for even more warmth.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cowhide patchwork rug?
A rug composed of 10 x 10 cm square blocks of genuine cowhide, stitched together to form a single rectangular rug. This allows you to combine the look of cowhide with a sleek design.
What are the dimensions of the patchwork rugs?
All rugs measure 180 x 120 cm. A nice size for under a coffee table, next to the bed, or in the home office.
Will I receive the exact rug shown in the photo?
You will receive a rug that closely resembles the photo. Because each piece comes from a real hide, the distribution of shades may vary slightly. This makes each rug a little unique.
Can a patchwork rug be placed on radiant floor heating?
Yes, that’s perfectly fine. Lightly mist the rug with a plant sprayer every now and then during the winter months to prevent the leather from drying out.
How do I care for a patchwork rug?
Shake or tap the rug out occasionally, or brush it gently in the direction of the nap. Spilled something? Immediately blot the spot dry with a clean, dry cloth—do not rub. Remove stubborn stains with a small amount of mild soap and lukewarm water.
Does a patchwork rug have a smell?
No. The hides are properly tanned, making the rugs odor-free.
