A dark sheepskin brings a sense of calm and depth to a room, and because black-brown has a warm brown undertone, it looks cozy rather than cold. The color pairs beautifully with wood tones, leather, and earthy materials, and fits perfectly into a rustic, industrial, or warm-modern interior. And a sheepskin is more than just beautiful: wool is a natural insulator (warm in winter, cool in summer), and it’s wonderfully soft to lie on—even for your dog or cat.
A natural blend of black and brown
No two black-brown sheepskins are alike. In some, deep black dominates; in others, warm brown takes center stage, often with beautiful shades in between. The wool length also varies, from short to long. My black-brown sheepskins come from breeds such as the Texelaar and the Icelandic sheep, and are sourced from Europe, where the finest sheepskins originate.
Naturally dark, never dyed
Important to know: both the black and the brown in my sheepskins are always natural—never dyed. True deep black is relatively rare in sheep, and when combined with warm brown, it makes a black-brown sheepskin extra special. The entire color comes from the sheep itself—ranging from nearly jet black to a warm dark brown—and that’s what makes it a true natural product.
Soft to the touch, odor-free
The wool of a black-brown sheepskin feels supple and full, thanks to the extra brushing at the tannery that ensures softness and luster. And the scent is just as important to me. Sheepskins from a quick, inexpensive tanning process often carry a strong goat or barn odor, which quickly permeates your home. Together with my tanneries, I’ve adjusted the tanning process so that this odor is gone, leaving only a neutral scent.
Which size is right for you?
When it comes to a sheepskin, size really matters: it needs to fit both the space and your purpose. Here’s a quick rundown, in ascending order of size:
- S: up to 100 cm. Great as an accent: draped over a stool or dining chair, in a corner, or as a soft spot for your dog or cat.
- M: 100 to 115 cm. The versatile favorite. Looks great draped over an armchair, or as a warm rug next to your bed. Not sure? You can almost always go with size M.
- L: 116 to 120 cm. Plush and generous; looks great draped over a larger sofa or as a decorative accent on the floor.
- (X)XL: 121 cm and up. The fullest skins: make a statement draped over a large sofa or used as a full-size rug.
Measure your space and compare it to the dimensions listed for each sheepskin. Keep in mind that a sheepskin has an organic shape—it’s not a rectangle—so the length is your best guide.

Sustainably tanned, with a story behind them
The tanning process is sustainable, in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, and free of harmful substances. The certification mark isn’t officially displayed on the product, but the standard is met. And every sheepskin is a byproduct of the meat industry: by having it tanned, nothing goes to waste. That’s exactly the idea that inspired me to start Leatheroverstock in the first place.

Almost always. I photograph most skins individually and assign them a unique number, so you’ll receive exactly that skin. Some I sell “off the stack”; in that case, you’ll receive a sheepskin similar to the one in the photo, in the same color and size. The listing will specify which option applies.
How do I care for a black-brown sheepskin?
