How big is a medium (M) sheepskin?
An M-sized sheepskin is 100 to 115 cm long. I measure each skin along its length—the long side, not diagonally—and including the wool. This places the M size between the smaller S (less than 100 cm) and the generous L (116–120 cm). Because it’s a natural product, each skin varies slightly in shape and fullness; length is therefore the best measure.
How to use a medium-sized sheepskin
It’s precisely because of that convenient size that you have endless possibilities:
- Over a chair or armchair: the classic look—drape it over the seat or backrest for a warm, soft spot to sink into.
- Next to your bed: as a warm rug, so your feet land on soft wool in the morning instead of a cold floor.
- On the couch: a soft, cozy accent that’s perfect for snuggling up against.
- As a resting spot for your dog or cat: a nice, cozy size for most dogs and cats.

Supple and soft, with no sheepy smell
The wool of an M-sized skin is wonderfully supple: at the tannery, each skin is brushed to ensure soft wool with a beautiful sheen. And the smell? That’s something I pay close attention to. Skins from a limited tanning process often smell like a goat or a farm, and that scent can linger throughout your home. Together with my tanneries, I’ve adjusted the tanning process so that smell is gone. What remains is a neutral-smelling pelt, ready to be laid out right away.

My medium-sized sheepskins are sustainably tanned according to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100: a tanning process free of harmful substances. They don’t carry the official certification mark, but they do meet that standard. And just like all my sheepskins, they’re a byproduct of the meat industry; by having them tanned, nothing goes to waste. That’s also the reason I started Leatheroverstock in the first place.

No. I sell only sheepskins in their natural colors. All shades come from the sheep themselves.
Will I receive the exact skin shown in the photo?
Almost always. I photograph most skins individually and assign them a unique number, so you’ll receive exactly that skin. Some I sell “off the stack”; in that case, you’ll receive a sheepskin similar to the one in the photo, in the same color and size. The listing will specify which option applies.
How do I care for a medium-sized sheepskin?
