      Description

      Medicinal sheepskin 120x95cm L

Do you spend long periods of time in a (wheel)chair or lying in bed? Then it’s certainly nice if you can do so comfortably. Medicinal sheepskins are specially designed to provide relief and extra comfort when you have to sit or lie down for an extended period, regardless of whether it’s for medical reasons.

By shearing the wool of the sheepskin evenly and shorter (+/- 3 cm in length), you get a uniform layer of wool that ensures your weight is distributed evenly when you sit or lie on the sheepskin. Thanks to its softness and pressure distribution, a therapeutic sheepskin can prevent the development of pressure sores, also known as decubitus. A therapeutic sheepskin therefore immediately adds extra comfort to your bed and (wheel)chair.

      This sheepskin in a nutshell

      • Color: medicinal
      • Dimensions: ± 120x95 cm L
      • Hair length: short
      • Odor control treatment: Yes, double-washed

What are the benefits of medicinal sheepskin?

Medicinal sheepskins offer several benefits, namely:

      • They distribute the pressure of your body evenly.
      • They are super soft and increase your sitting and lying comfort.
      • They drive off excess moisture.
      • They are breathable.
      • They can prevent pressure sores (bedsores).
      • They keep you warm when it's cold and stay nice and cool when it's hot.
      • They meet the Oeko-tex Standard 100 mark.
      • They are ecologically tanned and free of chemicals.

How can you use this medicinal sheepskin?

Medicinal sheepskins are specially developed to provide physical relief and reduce physical discomfort. They are sheared and have a wool length of approximately 3 cm. This ensures that your weight is distributed evenly, allowing you to always sit or lie comfortably.

      • Medical purpose: People who must sit or lie down for long periods may experience relief by using anti-decubitus sheepskins.
      • For those who sit a lot: Prolonged sitting can lead to pressure ulcers (also known as bedsores). Place a medicinal sheepskin on the seat of the chair so you can sit more softly and comfortably.
      • When lying down for long periods: The same applies here as when sitting for long periods. Lying down for long periods can also cause pressure sores. Therefore, place a medicinal sheepskin on top of your fitted sheet or molton. Position the sheepskin, for example, at the level of your hips, knees, or shoulders for extra support. (Or opt for an extra-large fleece so that multiple areas are supported at the same time.)
      • For other physical ailments: A medicinal sheepskin can also be used effectively for other physical ailments, such as back pain and joint problems. This is because they keep your muscles nice and warm.

Ecologically tanned, better for the environment

We have all our medicinal sheepskins tan sustainably. This means that the tannery does not use any harmful substances that could harm the environment, such as chromium, heavy metals, and other harmful substances. We even go a step further and are proud to say that the sheepskins we carry are certified under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100.

A unique tanning process that gives medicinal sheepskin a silky-soft feel and a pleasant scent

This medicinal sheepskin is extremely supple and has a wonderfully soft texture. To achieve this high quality, the sheepskin is brushed multiple times, making it extra soft and giving it a beautiful sheen.

Another characteristic of this premium medicinal sheepskin is its pleasant scent. We noticed that many sheepskins on the market have a very pungent sheep or farmyard odor. This is typical of cheap sheepskins that have undergone only a limited tanning process. If you bring a cheap sheepskin like that into your home, the whole house will smell like sheep in no time—not exactly desirable. After all, you want to be able to enjoy your medicinal sheepskin right away, don’t you?

Together with our tannery, we’ve explored how to make our medicinal sheepskins smell pleasant. After a few adjustments to the tanning process, our sheepskins now have a pleasant scent, and we’re actually quite proud of that. This means you can use them right away and enjoy their softness.

How can you care for this medicinal sheepskin?

Medicinal sheepskins require little to no maintenance. If dirt or moisture gets on the hide, you can use the tips below when cleaning it.

Removing stains and dirt from medicinal sheepskin:

      • These can be gently whipped out with the hand or a mat whisk.
      • If moisture (beverage, etc.) is spilled on it, pat the area dry immediately (do not rub!) with a clean dry cloth.
      • Stubborn stains can be removed with a small amount of natural detergent with lukewarm/hot water.
      • Dried-up dirt can be removed with a slightly damp cloth.
      • Note, never put them in a washer or dryer!

      Always uniquely photographed

With us, you’ll always receive the exact sheepskin shown in the photo. We photograph all medicinal sheepskins individually so you get a clear view of what you’re getting. That way, you always know exactly what you’re getting and can use it right away upon receipt.

Go for a medicinal sheepskin that no one else has

Sheepskins are genuine natural products, which is why only one of each sheepskin is available. This means you’re always bringing home a 100% unique piece that no one else has.

This is how we measure sheepskin:
      Measuring sheepskin: length and width
      • Length: in a straight line from the neck to the base of the tail.
      • Width: measured in a straight line from hind leg to hind leg.
      • Never measured diagonally.
      • Rounded to the nearest 5 cm (197 cm becomes 195 cm).
      • We measure the wool as well: this is the total size of the sheepskin.
